Why Ahwatukee Needs This “Nap Yoga”

Let’s talk about September for a second. The kids are finally back in the groove, fall sports are in full swing, the weekend festivals are starting to pop up, and if you’re like most of us in Ahwatukee, your family calendar looks like a game of Tetris you’re slowly losing.
We are, collectively, a little exhausted.
When well-meaning friends tell us we need to “try yoga” to de-stress, it can honestly feel like just another chore. Great, now I have to drive somewhere, sweat in a mirrored room, and hold a plank until my arms shake? When you’re already running on fumes, the last thing you want is a workout that demands more from your body.
That’s why we’re so incredibly excited about what’s happening this Tuesday evening just up the road at Sozo Healing House in Tempe.
Energy Seed Yoga is hosting a Yoga Nidra session, and it is exactly what our frazzled, over-scheduled nervous systems need right now.

Wait, what is Yoga Nidra?

It happens to be Yoga Awareness Month, but don’t let the word “yoga” intimidate you if you can’t touch your toes. Yoga Nidra translates to “yogic sleep.”
There are no sun salutations. There is no downward dog. You don’t even need to change into fancy activewear if you don’t want to.
Instead, it’s a deeply restorative, guided meditation practice. You simply lie flat on your back on your mat, close your eyes, and listen to the instructor’s voice. The goal is to hover in that magical, heavy twilight space right on the edge of falling asleep—where your body gets the deep rest of sleep, but your mind stays just awake enough to let go of the day’s tension.
It’s not a workout. It’s a “work-in.” It’s a hard reset for your brain.

Why this matters right now:

We are so bad at resting. We confuse collapsing on the couch and scrolling through our phones with “relaxing.” But your brain is still processing light, noise, and information. Yoga Nidra actually quiets the noise. It’s 60 minutes of pure, uninterrupted permission to just be.

The Ahwatukee Game Plan:

  • When: Tuesday, September 22 | 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM. (The absolute perfect time to decompress after work, before you head home to tackle dinner and homework).
  • Where: Sozo Healing House in Tempe. (It’s a beautiful, intentionally calming space just a quick 15-minute hop up the freeway from the Foothills).
  • What to bring: Your yoga mat, and anything that makes you cozy. A favorite blanket, a neck pillow, an eye mask. Dress in your most comfortable sweatpants.
  • The Vibe: Quiet, safe, and incredibly welcoming. Whether you’ve meditated for years or you’ve never taken a deep breath on purpose in your life, you belong here.
We spend so much of our week giving our energy to our jobs, our kids, our homes, and our community. Tuesday night is your chance to take a little bit of that energy back.
Give yourself permission to lie down. Give yourself permission to do absolutely nothing.
We’ll be the ones in the back row, probably snoring.
