Stunning Views of Tonight’s Partial Lunar Eclipse

Ahwatukee, you’ve outdone yourselves once again! Tonight’s partial lunar eclipse over our beautiful desert community was nothing short of spectacular, and thanks to the incredible members of the A411 community on Facebook, we’ve got some breathtaking images to prove it.

On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, the skies over Ahwatukee lit up with a mesmerizing combination of a Supermoon, a Harvest Moon, and a partial lunar eclipse. This rare celestial trio created a night of wonder, with the Moon shining brighter and closer than usual, and casting a gentle, reddish glow as it passed through Earth’s shadow.

A Night to Remember: Ahwatukee Captures the Magic

Our amazing A411 community members shared some truly stunning photos, perfectly capturing the essence of this unique lunar event. From homes nestled against the foothills to wide open skies, Ahwatukee served as the perfect backdrop for this moment in the cosmos. You can almost feel the quiet serenity of the desert night as the moon glowed, casting a mystical light over our streets and mountains.

What Made This Eclipse So Special?

Not only was this a partial lunar eclipse, but it also coincided with two other lunar events:

  • Supermoon: The Moon was at its closest point to Earth, making it appear larger and more radiant than usual.
  • Harvest Moon: Being the closest full moon to the autumnal equinox, this lunar phase has long been celebrated for illuminating the night sky for farmers harvesting their crops.

Though the eclipse was only partial, meaning the Moon didn’t fully dip into Earth’s shadow, the visible portion turned a delicate reddish hue—a sight that felt both surreal and awe-inspiring.
