Ahwatukee, like much of the Phoenix area, has been roasting under a relentless heatwave, with temperatures soaring well above 110 degrees Fahrenheit. The intense heat has made outdoor activities nearly impossible, and it’s hard to even walk to the mailbox without feeling like you’re stepping into an oven. But there’s good news on the horizon—a cool down is coming!
A Desert Heatwave: How Ahwatukee Residents Are Coping
As we all know, Ahwatukee summers are no joke, but this heatwave has been on another level. With the scorching sun beating down day after day, residents have been finding creative ways to beat the heat. From poolside lounging and indoor staycations to early morning hikes before the sun fully rises, folks are doing what they can to stay cool.
But as the days wear on, even the most heat-hardy among us are eagerly awaiting a break. Luckily, relief is in sight!
A Cool Change is Coming
A low-pressure system is expected to move in from the Pacific Northwest by midweek, finally bringing some cooler weather to our corner of the Valley. By the weekend, temperatures could drop significantly, and we might even see highs in the upper 90s—yes, you read that right, upper 90s!
While that might not sound cool to outsiders, we in Ahwatukee know how glorious 90-something can feel after weeks of 110+. So, get ready to turn off the AC (for a few hours, at least) and enjoy a little reprieve from the desert heat.
Staying Safe in the Heat
Even though cooler temps are on the way, it’s still important to stay safe while we wait for the relief. Be sure to drink plenty of water, avoid outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day, and check in on neighbors who may be more vulnerable to the heat, like seniors or those without air conditioning.
Ahwatukee’s Weekend Plans Just Got Better
With the weather cooling down by the weekend, it’s the perfect opportunity to plan some outdoor activities. Maybe a morning hike up South Mountain or a family picnic at one of our local parks is in order? Or perhaps you’ve been putting off those patio dinner plans with friends—this might be the weekend to finally make it happen!
So, hang tight, Ahwatukee! Relief from the heat is on the way, and soon we’ll be enjoying our beautiful desert community in the kind of weather we love.
